Q?

Why do pre finished floors have a bevelled edge?

A.

A bevelled edge is a manufacturing feature where the long sides of boards have a micro tapered edge. The ends of the boards have no bevel and are referred to as ‘square edged’. Bevelled edges are used on both solid and engineered floors.
The size of the bevel varies depending on the manufacturer. Our flooring is micro bevelled resulting in a very small v that can be seen on the long sides of the boards, the ends have no bevel.

The bevel serves as an appearance feature and also has a practical purpose when the sub-floor surface has slight irregularities that would result in an edge being slightly exposed and require sanding. The bevel helps compensate for the slight differences and can avoid picking sharp edge.

Q?

Is it true that timber & bamboo floors give a cleaner home environment?

A.

Yes. Carpet attracts and holds many allergenic spores, dust-mites, bacteria, fungi, animal dander and other unhealthy microbes. These irritants are dispersed every time you vacuum.

Q?

What is your experience and recommendation to having timber or bamboo installed in the kitchen areas especially in regards to spills, frequent mopping, etc?

A.

Our all engineered flooring has 7 coats of ceramic glaze on the wear surface and the boards are sealed on all sides with polyurethane to protect them from spillage. In addition to this the floor is clamped up tight when laid however all spills should be cleaned up as soon as possible. Cleaning with a slightly damp or dry mop should be used for spills. However in our 18 years experience of laying bamboo and timber flooring in kitchen areas, I have not had one complaint from any of our satisfied clients.

Q?

How long will it take to get my floor done?

A.

Before we are able to install your floor, we need to check the sub floor level and moisture content as well as inside of your home to insure your flooring will stay firm and secure without warping, cupping, swelling or splitting apart.
Please remember the preparation of your sub floor is a key factor to a good result and will be a more secure outcome for the timber once its laid. The floor preparation will take one day, to ensure the barrier is dry, when we install the timber we normally use 2 – 3 of our team members who are experienced craftsmen.

If you are using raw state timber we will direct stick the timber with glue to the concrete or ply. Once laid the timber will require a week to settle prior to coating. Sanding, sealing and coating will take up to 3 – 4 days. We aim to have your floor done within 2 weeks from the time of commencment to the completion of your job.

Q?

Does it cost any more for staircases?

A.

Yes it does. It depends on the type of structure and design your staircase is, wheather the steps are standard, extra wide or long, open ended, kite steps, curved or tread steps. Also the type of timber you require and wheather you want straight edged or bull nosing on your steps, theses all need to be taken into account. We have installed many different types of timber on staircases in Western Australia since 1998.

Q?

I have skirting boards the area we want to put the new floor in, do I have to remove them all?

A.

No you don’t have to, we supply & fit matching beading between the floor boards and existing skirting boards. If you don’t like the beading we can remove the existing skirting boards and re fit them after the floor has been installed. This will be an extra cost.

Q?

Do you take rubbish away after the finishing my floor?

A.

Yes, We tidy up and bag all the rubbish and all wastage. Sometimes we may need to charge a minimum cost.

Q?
